1. The First Wedding Rings Were Made of Braided Plants
Exchanging wedding rings has been a long-standing tradition that began thousands of years ago.
What most newlyweds-to-be don’t realise, is that this ritual may date back over 4,800 years, with couples in ancient Egypt even swapping rings. Engaged pairs of that era would carefully braid papyrus to form two bands, which is truly astonishing considering the time period. Then, they would slide it onto their beloved’s finger.
2. The Shape Symbolises Eternity
Wedding rings are circular for a wonderful reason: it is a symbol for eternity. This is because a circle has no beginning and no end, reflecting the endless love that is expected from a happy marriage. Therefore, even in early production, their appearance represented all that marriage stands for.
3. Wedding Rings Bend the Rules in Prison
Wedding bands are an exception to the rule for inmates who wish to wear jewellery. These rings are one of the only items that are (usually) allowed on their person, so long as their ring is a plain design without any gemstones.
Visitors typically have to remove all jewellery before they enter the prison, too. Although, in most cases, their wedding ring can also be kept on while they are there.
4. Not All Wedding Rings Are Worn on The Finger
This may take you by surprise, but in some cultures, the bride traditionally displays her marital ring on her toe, rather than her left hand. This is a common practice for Hindu women in India, who normally wear two toe rings - one on each second toe of both feet.

Of course, wearing a wedding band unites you and your partner, but it could also keep you out of harm’s way.
An American business owner’s life was once saved simply because he was wearing his ring. When a shot was fired at Donnie Register during an armed robbery, he raised his hand to protect his face. The band on his left finger completely deflected the bullet and as a result, he only sustained minor injuries.
